Holy Communion is Celebrated the First and Third Sundays each month. All who believe Christ is truly present are welcome.
A nursery is available during the Worship Service.
We are handicapped accessible. There is an entrance to a key operated elevator on Blondeau Street.
Activities for Youth
Sunday School (See schedule above)
Children's Choir - During the school year, school age children are invited to sing favorite hymns as well as new songs to praise our Lord!
Choir Chimers - Older children to adults are welcome to join in the beautiful sounds.
Vacation Bible School - During one week in the summer, the children gather for fellowship, lessons, songs, and crafts. Come join the fun!
Confirmation Classes - Seventh and Eighth graders meet for Christian education to increase knowledge and deepen faith.
LYO - Lutheran Youth Organization provides fun and thought-provoking activities for youth in seventh and eighth grades.
Adults
Adult Sunday School meets in the church basement at 9:00 A.M. from September to May. A guided Bible study is held. All are welcome!
WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America) - These smaller groups meet monthly for Bible study. Special group fellowship activities are held several times throughout the year. The groups are active in service projects.
WELCA hosts an Annual Holiday Bazaar the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Funds are used for our church, as well as to help our community. Come for crafts and good food!
WELCA work days are held from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. beginning the second Wednesday in January and continue into April. God's Word is seen in action, as the women work to help others in need by rolling bandages, making quilts, and health kits, school kits, sewing kits, and layette kits.
Prayer Mondays at First Lutheran - Prayers are offered every Monday at the church altar from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 A.M. Come to offer prayers of praise, healing, and concerns to our Lord to start the work week.
Prayer Chain - When there is a special need or concern please call (319)524-4540 or (319)524-4105. Many will be praying in a short time.
Loaves and Fishes - A Fellowship outreach meal is served the last Thursday of every month. This program is sponsored jointly by First Lutheran and six area churches, each taking turns during the year to provide the workers and the meal. The meal is prepared and served at First Lutheran. This free meal is open to all in need. Contact Jackie Rector for more information.
Sunday Evening Bible Study - An interactive Bible study, covering various topics, is held at 6 P.M. on Sundays. All adults are welcome. Inquire for more information.
