Good Shepherd's Message from Pastor Spang

The Road Less Traveled

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I--
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference

...Robert Frost

Every day of our life we come to at least one "fork in the road" and a decision must be made as to which way to go. Some of those forks in the road we scarcely even think about and hurry on down the path without even realizing we could have gone a different way. Other times we stand at the fork and agonize over which way to go.

Robert Frost in his famous poem "The Road Less Traveled" speaks of standing at the fork in the road and taking the one less traveled which made all the difference. The choice you make at each fork in the road throughout your day can make all the difference. That first fork in the road may come right after the alarm goes off in the morning. You have a choice. Do you hurry on down the road rushing headlong into checking off the long list of things that rush into your mind, or do you take the quiet path and start the day with a short Bible reading and prayer to your Creator and Redeemer asking for His guidance on the path this day? The road you take can make all the difference.

This can be especially true at this time of the year, where the well-traveled road entices you by the sheer number of people that have taken it. It is the well-traveled road of Christmas parties, Christmas shopping, Christmas baking, Christmas tree buying and decorating and hauling out all those Christmas decorations for the house. Every one seems to be on the road, from the neighbor who never goes to church to the neighbor who always goes to church… it is a road well-traveled. At the end of that road what will you find? The road you take can make all the difference.

There is a road less traveled that stands before you. It might appear overgrown and tough going. It might even appear that you are the only one on it at times. If you look real close though, you can see a sign on that road. It is not flashy or fancy, and it is written in very simple letters. Most of the world passes it by and takes no notice of it. But it is there for all to see… Grace Way. By God's grace you walk on that road, and by faith you see wondrous things. You see the gift of the baby Jesus. You see the gift of a grown Jesus hanging on the cross and looking down upon you with love and compassion. You see the glory of His resurrection filling you with hope and joy. It is the road less traveled.

It is my prayer that this Christmas season you will walk on that road less traveled, it makes all the difference for now and eternity.

Have a Blessed, Joy-Filled Christmas,

Pastor Bryan
