Immanuel Lutheran Church
Washington, Iowa

Making a Joyful Noise
Immanuel is blessed with fine musicians of all ages, many of them professionals.  Two choirs, both under the direction of Sara Bartlett, assist with worship September through May.  The Junior Choir currently has 20 members with Julie Hill serving as accompanist.  Twenty three voices make up the Adult Choir, accompanied by Shari Moeller.

Instrumental music plays a very important role at Immanuel.  The organ, as well as the new grand piano fill the sanctuary with sounds of joyful praise under the skilled fingers of Shari Moeller, Julie Hill and Mike Jewell.

Several times during the past year other musicians have contributed to worship services.  Special music has included violin, brass quintet and visiting bell choirs.
Christmas 1996 and 1997 were given extra meaning when Immanuel's Adult Choir presented Bach's Christmas Oratorio, accompanied by a 17-piece orchestra.  This was the first time this work has been presented in Washington, Iowa.
At Easter time the Jackson Berkeys, well-known professional musicians from Omaha, played the piano and led choir members in singing a newly written benediction by Jackson, "God be in My Head."
