Pastor Phyllis Diamond

Grace and Peace to you from Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

To the Saints gathered at Moxham Lutheran Church,

I am honored to be appointed to serve as your interim pastor and I look forward to meeting you soon.  I thought that you might want to know a little about me, so I am including a brief biographical sketch.

I was born and have lived in Virginia for most of my life.  I grew up in Salem, Virginia, which is the center of all things Lutheran because the Virginia Synod offices and many of the ministries of the church are located there.

As a young woman, I felt the call to ministry within the church but was unable to pursue this calling due to lack of resources and support.  Therefore, I chose a different path of ministry, nursing.  As a Registered Nurse, I was able to minister to the physical and emotional needs of others for many years.  I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Old Dominion University in 2006.  As I considered continuing my education, I realized that the opportunity for pursuing my call to ministry as a pastor had arrived.  I enrolled at Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in 2008 and graduated in May 2012.

I am coming to you from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia where I have served for five years as the pastor of three congregations that make up the River of Life partnership in Page County.

I have been a member of the International Network of Biblical Storytellers.  I love the challenge of telling the old, old story by heart, from the heart.  I have enjoyed working with community groups such as the Cub Scouts, Grace House (a recovery house for women suffering from addiction), and with Page One, a community ministry to the poor of Page County.

I am married to Doug Diamond, have three adult children (Jeanne, Ben, and David) and five grandchildren (Dahlia, Gabe, Sonny, Levi, and Riley). Doug also has three adult children (Joshua, Aaron and Gabrielle). We will be bringing another member of our family with us, Snork, our adorable Boston terrier who rescued us from a life of boredom a few years ago.

I enjoy reading, traveling, being in the great outdoors, visiting art museums, singing, and dancing.

I am excited by the opportunity to combine the gifts and experiences that God have given to me with the gifts that you enjoy at Moxham.  Doug and I look forward to meeting you and joining you in service to Our Lord.
