CATECHETICAL GROUP ADULT CATECHETICAL GROUP INDEX ~ 7p.m.-8:30p.m. SEE THIS WEEK FOR DATES INTRODUCTION ~ by Pastor Jeff When I offered a review of catechetical material for adults, I thought that folks would laugh. They didn't. Several persons came to me indicating interest in and commitment to such a study. We will begin on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, 7:00p.m. - 8:30p.m. There is still time for you to become part of this group. Please speak to me to let me know your intention. There is nothing to buy. There will be no "homework". There will be no tests. No Response to Worship forms will be due. You will not be expected to attend Confirmation Camp. You will not be expected to take copious notes (although paper will be available for you to jot down whatever you want to remember that is not on the outlines that will be handed out with each session). The Catechetical Group will normally meet the second Tuesday of the month from 7:00p.m. - 8:30p.m. The course has at least 18 sessions. Participants in the group will receive the same outlines that the 7th and 8th grade confirmands receive. However, the confirmands are on a schedule. The Adult Catechetical Group will not be on a schedule and will be free to "take side trips". For example, one side trip will be a viewing of the film about Martin Luther that was released to the public a little more than a year ago. I will present much more material in these sessions than I do in any of the other studies currently offered at Zion, all of which are more meditative in nature. That being said, my expectation is that the Catechetical Group will have a conversational format: I want participants to be free to ask questions that occur to them in the moment. I want to respond to these questions as fairly and honestly as I can. A "secretary" for the group will record questions to which I cannot immediately respond or which will be answered more appropriately at some other point in the curriculum. I want the sessions to be for you. That is, I want the review to be something enjoyable for you that you will regard as valuable to use your time as you consider the question that is at the heart of all catechetical studies: What does it mean for me to be baptized? |
