"The Nightmare"
By Eric Kuck

I woke up one Saturday morning and turned on the television. I was expecting to see "The Simpsons" but it wasn't showing. Instead "Third Rock from the Sun" was on. I checked the T.V. Guide, and it said that "The Simpsons" had been canceled! At first I thought I could get by on old "Simpsons" tapes. I went to get them and found out my mom had erased them for another show.
I almost went mad looking for "Simpsons" tapes. They were all gone! I eventually gave up. I just sat down and cried.
I heard my mom upstairs. I went up and asked her to write Fox to tell them to put "The Simpsons" back on T.V. She said she didn't feel like it.
The door opened and my dad came into the house. I asked him to write the letter, but he wouldn't! How could they? Didn't they know that a young life was depending on this letter?
I decided to go upstairs and write it myself, and to forge my parents' signatures. I wrote it and put it in an envelope. All I needed was a stamp. My dad said I couldn't have one. I couldn't buy one myself because of the new law. It said that no one under one hundred could buy stamps.
I then remembered that my friend had every "Simpsons" episode on tape. I rushed over there. I rang the doorbell and he answered. He said he had just got a DVD player, so he had burned all his tapes.
I went home and cried again. I then heard that magical theme song of "The Simpsons". I rushed downstairs and watched. I asked my dad why the T.V. guide said it had been canceled. He said that the writers of the T.V. Guide had called and said they had made a mistake.
