"A Dream Come True"
By Krystal Martin
Qwebeka realized she wanted to be a writer. She was very good writer. She has
been writing poems ever since she was nine years.
Ms. Brown came to Qwebeka, took her term paper, and said, "Qwebeka, the
principal would like to see you."
Qwebeka went to the principal's office and knocked on the door. "Who is it?"
asked the principal.
"It's Qwebeka Shorts," Qwebeka responded. As the door began to open, she saw
an unfamiliar man sitting on the couch.
"Hello, you must Qwebeka Shorts," said the man as he shook her hand. "My name
is Mr. Notenburg. I'm the author and publisher of Where's My Cousin? I think
you have what it takes to be an author," he said. As soon as she heard that
she began to cry. "Why are you crying?" asked Mr. Notenburg.
"I'm crying because no one has really ever said that to me before," she
responded. Mr. Notenburg stood up and whispered something to the principal.
"Ms. Shorts, if you don't mind, I would like to publish one of your poems,"
replied Mr. Notenburg.
"Sure. I only have one question. May I go to the bathroom?" Qwebeka asked.
"Yes, you may. But before you go, I need you to do me a favor," replied the
principal. "I need you to write your name, phone number, and your parent's
name."
"Okay," replied Qwebeka. She went home and told her mother and father what
had happened. As she was explaining the situation to her parents, they all
began to cry. They were crying because nothing like this had ever happened
to their family before.
As she got older, she became more successful at her work. More children began
to love her writing. When she was sixty-three years old she received The Most
Enjoyable Literature Book Ever Read Award.
Her faith in herself as a young child had been worth it.
